The Touro Synagogue

Prayer Service Schedule

Join us for Services at Touro Synagogue!

Congregation Shearith Israel welcomes you to visit Touro Synagogue and to pray with the congregation in residence, Congregation Ahavath Israel.

Congregation Ahavath Israel is the Orthodox Jewish community privileged to call Touro Synagogue – the oldest standing synagogue in the United States – its spiritual home.

Ahavath Israel is a warm, welcoming local Newport Congregation rooted in Torah tradition, committed to halacha, and inspired by the historic legacy of religious freedom and Jewish perseverance that Touro represents.

The Congregation at Touro follows the Orthodox rite. As such, men and women sit separately, and worshipers dress respectfully. On Shabbat, men are encouraged to wear “business casual” attire, and all men and boys wear kippot (skull caps). Women generally wear skirts/dresses (not too short) and some sleeve, and many married women choose to wear some kind of head covering (e.g., a hat or doily) but it is not required. If you have specific questions about appropriate attire for Shabbat, write to us at touro@shearithisrael.org.

Whether you’re a local resident, a visitor to Newport, or a student of Jewish heritage, you are warmly invited to participate in prayers in a setting rich with American and Jewish history.
